SATAT Ongoing Projects:

MAHILAPANCHAYAT DELHI COMMISSION FOR WOMEN :  Delhi Commission for Women has started the 'Mahila Panchayat' programme, which is an on-going project in the national capital region since 2002. This programme works in collaboration with non-governmental institutions in setting up a grass-root level system which caters to the problems that women face in everyday lives.
The problems may range from lack of maintenance on the part of the husband or the husband's family, harassment- sexual, physical, harassment at work, domestic violence, problems with the neighbors, property and so on.


MIGRANT WOMEN WORKERS IN CONSTRUCTION AND DOMESTIC SPACES IN DELHI METROPOLITAN AREA:  Rapid processes of urbanization have created demands for cheap labour and thus acted as a catalyst for migration from rural to urban areas. Lack of livelihoods back home in rural areas is the push factors. In some cases, migration is exploitative, hazardous and against the dignity of women. It is very important that some regulation of this exploitative process of hiring female labour is established.

FREE OF VIOLENCE SAFE METROPOLITAN SPACES FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS: A STUDY IN DELHI:  focuses on violence in the public domain, including sexual harassment; staring, physical and sexual assault, rape, stalking, passing lewd comments etc. Women and girls experience various forms of sexual harassment, molestation and violence in public spaces, and often fail to report it due to fear of censure or restriction of movement by their families, or simply because they believe the issue would be trivialised by the police. SATAT NANHI BETI-GIRL CHILD EDUCATION -:  Rukmini Devi Sarvodaya Balika Junior High School, Gajobari Village, Gola, Gorakhpur district,Uttar Pradesh. Rukmini Devi School is a girl's school with a difference. The emphasis is on imparting education free of cost and on impacting the mindsets of the neighbouring communities. The school caters to young girls from Schedule Castes/tribes/OBC and economically backward families. Not only are these girls provided with formal education, they are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities like drama, music, dance and sports. Read more..

LIVELIHOOD EMPOWERMENT VOCATIONAL TRAINING:  Under skill buius vocational training courses were/are offered to young women and youth. These courses include tailoring, block printing, mehendi, beautician courses and Computer Training are conducted in order to provide opportunities for employment. 60 women learnt tailoring, 24 young boys and girls joined computer application classes, 19 women joined beautician courses and 19 learnt how to apply mehendi. Some women have already started working from home and earning Rs.2000-3,000 a month.


ADULT EDUCATION & PUBLIC MEETING:  Adult Education classes were held and imparted to the women of the community. In the meetings they are made aware of various socio-economic, legal and health related issues.


SATAT COMMUNITY LIBRARIES:  As during the reporting period, Satat is currently running a library at Vikas Kendra, Srinivaspuri, where the books are accessible not only to the beneficiaries coming for various programs but, also to the surrounding community. Satat is also running libraries in the two orphanages in Blair, Andaman and Nicobar islands. The library has been started in the memory of Tsunami victims. Satat acknowledges the support of the National Book Trust of India, Lioness Club and individuals for this endeavour.
